UC Berkeley and US Department of Agriculture

I am an ecologist by training. As a scientist I have worked mainly on wide-ranging large mammals including their roles in ecosystems, their habitat needs, and their conflicts with people. Much of this work has taken place in grasslands of the Western US and Patagonia. Recently I have also worked as an advisor on conservation at USDA. In this role I have become more involved in efforts to conserve grasslands at large scales by improving the delivery of voluntary conservation programs. I am concerned about the decline of grassland biodiversity, but also more broadly about the enormous cultural and social impacts of losing "working grasslands" in the US and globally.
