CLARE MIFLIN

ThinkWoven and Center for Zero Waste Design

Clare is a circular systems thinker with over 20 years of experience as an architect, designing buildings to the highest environmental standards. In 2017, she led the development of the Zero Waste Design Guidelines in NYC, through a multidisciplinary collaborative process. This groundbreaking resource shows how design of the built environment plays a crucial role in achieving zero waste. Clare left architecture to set up the non-profit Center for Zero Waste Design, with a mission to implement the Guidelines within NYC and adapt them to other high density cities worldwide. Recent work includes the vision plan "Put Waste to Work: Vibrant Streetscapes, Green Jobs and Healthy Neighborhoods" which advocates for transforming the way NYC manages waste, getting trash bags off sidewalks and compost into soils. As a biomimicry professional, Clare takes inspiration from natural systems, and has founded a consultancy – ThinkWoven – which designs ways to weave urban systems into ecosystems.
