Nature, art, and history were important parts of my upbringing in the southeastern U.S., inspiring my studies in art and landscape architecture in the ‘80s and ‘90s at the University of Georgia. My graduate research on the historic grasslands of my home region has become the foundation for my work since then as I share my love for nature through landscape painting and writing. My most recent exhibitions and book examined the tallgrass prairie ecosystem in Illinois, adding to my many years exploring southeastern grassland communities, along with forays into grasslands in New England and the páramo of the Colombian Andes. The aesthetics, history, and, increasingly, the human connection to grassland ecology continue to motivate me to bring these ecosystems to public attention.
