Southeastern Grasslands Institute

I received both of my graduate degrees in ecology, studying habitat relationships of birds. My other research interests were and continue to be in conservation biology, carnivore ecology, vegetation science, and disturbance ecology. As a conservation biologist living in Florida, I knew that most of our biodiversity is associated with grasslands, savannas, and other open ecosystems. I also knew that these ecosystems have suffered serious declines across the Southeast since EuroAmerican settlement, to the point where these have become forgotten ecosystems. So I set out to write Forgotten Grasslands of the South, which was published in 2012, and later teamed up with the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative.
